We Should Never Have Sex Again
A little bit of lore on my new single! Lyrics at the end.
Hello angelitas,
I hope you are all well!! the 3rd single to my 2nd EP Between The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea is here!! - my 7th ever release in total and my goodness has this one been in the vault for a while. I’m so happy it’s finally in the universe.
I shall link her hear so you may listen while reading if you so wish to?
Now that your listening comfortably.. I’d love to tell you a little bit about this song and how it came to be.
Lore
At the time of writing We Should Never Have Sex Again I had done the breaking up part with my ex but I was still seeing him basically, and obviously sleeping with him, just this time without what I’d been trying to force (a committed and loving relationship </3)
It was a cursed way to behave tbh and I new it.. but It didn’t take long for music to be born from what I was doing, which is always the weird win artists get when their lives are falling apart. I’s a realllly toxic way to justify doing bad things to ourselves too. Do not recommend!!
I still really seriously do still live with the shame of this period. To have written Never’s a Promise & Stick the Knife in beforehand - such punchy angry “fuck you I’ll never get back with you” songs, it was kind of heartbreaking for me to go back on all of it. All I can say is that I really, really missed him. I have this really harrowing memory of seeing him again for the first time in months and just wailing in his arms and him looking at me like I was insane. The whole experience truly carved my heart out of my chest. It’s so gutting to know he never cared like i did but even though it was brutal, and awful, and everything in between, I’m so glad it made me an artist and if you’re reading this - thank you for listening and reading - it means the world.
if you’re going through anything similar, I’m always here with advice on what NOT to do in these situations. Always feel free to reach out <3
How it was made and by who!
I first penned this song back in October 2023 just before i recorded my debut EP (crazy right?!) and I ended up finishing it properly in March 2024 which is when i managed to get back to the studio. I’m kind of appalled it’s basically 2 years old but that’s what happens when you let old men tell you what is “releasable” music. But we’re so back and happier and healthier than ever!!
I made this song on the 1st of 3 days with Katie at the studio she works at :))
If you’re new hear you might not know that I make all my music with my best friend in the entire world - Katie May - she’s the best human in the universe. See exhibit A:
she’s just adorable. I love her muchly.
anyway! It was also made on our fourth ever session together (wow!!) and was followed by the creation of Why Do I Need You, Man? and our only ever flop Loveless (rip) !! it features saxophone from my dear friend Rachel Dover and some Trumpet played by Ben Gardiner that was masterfully stitched together by Katie into the outro of all outros! We had so much fun making it.. and i especially had a fun time lying on the floor after laying down my guitar part and watching Katie make it into the song it is. Best feeling ever!
We’re so proud of it and I hope you enjoyed reading about how it came to be. Please do reach out if you like it - It always makes me smile :)
Huge love.
If you want to support our work I’m having the project pressed into vinyl which is so very cool.. you can grab it here for just £2.75 a song ( a hell of a lot more than Spotify’s 0.003p per track) !! Support now <3
Oh and last but not least - the lyrics !!
VERSE 1
Lying to forget
when i say I’m done..
are we done?
Too much to regret..
when I say I’m done
I should be…
PRE- CHORUS
But it’s not easy, easy
easy to fall away from you
never wanted someone as much as
CHORUS
you, you, you
you, you, you
VERSE 2
Almost ain’t enough
when I love the way I love
I turned into your dog
every word you spoke turned into
PRE-CHORUS
gospel, truly
I let you do anything to me
your spell
could never say no
CHORUS/OUTRO
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
